ANOTHER FESTIVAL ? — Denens-sur-Morges
30 july 2010, www.berlesrock.com
Yes, but this one is “intriguing, hypnotic, personal, wild, explosive, inventive, ravenous, pleasurable, voracious, hysterical, brutal, unique, multi-faceted, tender, thumping, lively, clear, crlawffm…”
Crlawffm? Probably, since this particular festival has something indefinable about it. Iehjgnrys, perhaps. Or ljdwd. Who knows?
Its genesis somewhat resembles a birthday party in the family garden: a party that slips out of control, transforms into something else. The family house still looks out over the garden, which for its part has grown, eating into the fields so as to avoid touching the vineyards. Because we’re on the Côte, at Denens-sur-Morges, for those for whom that name means anything, i.e. for those who were born there. And for them, it’s the moment to return for the space of two evenings, from 30-31 July 2010.
The trio of programmers only invites a group to the festival if they all agree. I don’t know if this is written in the statutes, but it’s a principle that’s observed, and a promising one at that! They’ve offered carte blanche to a quartet led by Rihs Chatham and Pierre Bastien, which, lamentably, I missed at Urbaines 2009. And Rihs Chatham again, the following evening. For the rest, frankly, I’ll leave you in the musical hands of myspace, since it’s all there to be discovered. And if Denens seems too far away, don’t tell me then that you’re going to Sonar! The wine is local, from the village, the food, too, and the giant screens have been replaced by a stunning view of Lake Leman of Geneva… you’d think you were at Orange Cinema waiting for another turkey to begin…
